As a photographer in Los Angeles, I get around the city  a lot and see all kinds of things that make this town the interesting, beautiful, sometimes bizarre place that we call home. This Honk project sprung from a couple of random snapshots that I took while on location. It's a series of images of cars found in odd places around L.A., and the combination of nostalgia, grit and context make me see them as more than images of cars, but captured stories of L.A. that leave the endings up to the viewer.

Each car, and even each angle of the car, presents a change to the storyline. You'll find your imagination engaged in a weaving of possibilities as you piece together what might be. And in these possible stories, there will always be drama. An event that has passed. Things kept alive only in memories. Beauty aged by time into faded artifacts. But also new beginnings and opportunities provided by the nature of progress.

As those stories fill your mind, I hope you will also consider the stories of many young people in Los Angeles that live in constant drama. Whose hopes and dreams are tested each day as they face challenges that most of us cannot fathom. If you feel compelled, please donate something to help the Los Angeles Youth Network.

Thank you for your support.

Many times, I would see a car that I wanted to shoot, but either the place, time or both made it so I could only get one or two shots at the moment, and I wasn't able to return to shoot the car in different light or alternate angles. So....

  3. Continental meets Eldorado Posted on September 13, 2016 by Dexter Missouri

Brothers from 'nother mothers. The Lincoln Continental and the Buick Eldorado both have the long sleek lines, two-door coupe and lots of chrome. They could been built by the same company, or maybe owned by the same person. They say cool, slick, smooth and classy - if you were someone....

  4. The Wagons Posted on September 13, 2016 by Dexter Missouri

These two Pontiac station wagons have seen better days. But somebody liked the faux woody side panels enough to buy two. The sun and weather have taken their toll along with a few fender benders, but it also looks like these machines have carried some heavy loads and logged some....

  5. How this project started Posted on September 13, 2016 by Dexter Missouri

This Chevy Nova was all alone on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Maybe not all that uncommon given the surfers who will stop almost anywhere they see a decent break. But no surfers in sight this early morning. So what's the story? That's exactly what made me think this....
